Performance born from the series of paintings and objects “Automatic City” by Josie Watson. With a comic dimension, the interactive city summarizes in images an old and quiet landscape struggling to wake up.

Opening: 6 October 2017, 17 hs.

Institute: Nueva Escuela de Diseño y Comunicación, Callao 57, Buenos Aires.

Josie Watson visits the high institute where she first learned to fuse traditional and digital art. In the New School, technical careers are taught at an initial level with a special focus on manual techniques together with specialized new technologies for each of them. The artist found here the first space where she could get to know the software and systems with which she would later work on a daily basis.

Josie Watson maintains a fraternal relationship with the New School, accompanying it in multiple activities, giving open classes and tuttoring students in their creative searches.

In 2018 the artist donated to the New School an App with which the murals in the corridors of the old building made by the former students could be seen animated. The walls would come alive! The App was one of the activities that the institution was able to present in its first participation in the 2018 Buenos Aires Museum Night. This type of works done by the alumni promotes the collaboration spirit of an institution that accompanies artists from different creative disciplines on their way to professionalizing their passion and mastering their own careers.

Caja de Cristal, Banco Ciudad

Caja de Cristal, Banco Ciudad

Opening: 2 October 2017, 18 hs. Open until 31st of October.

Institute: Banco Ciudad, Florida 302, Buenos Aires.

Banco Ciudad, the public banck of the city of Buenos Aires is the official patreon of the exhibition “Ciudad Automática of Buenos Aires”, the new icon of the city of Buenos Aires. Josie Watson presents this Art & Technology initiative with an innovative event that you will be able to experience from your cell phone in your city, live and in person.

WatsOnArt is an Argentine interactive art production company specially designed to generate intuitive, inclusive and educational artistic experiences suitable for all audiences. There will also be two interactive installations, and a tango performance by Nuria Schneller.

Created by young Argentine professionals specialized in plastic arts, technology, digital projections, programming, animation, design, theater, music and literature, WatsOnArt transmits in its products the freshness and novelty of cooperative work, a lifestyle that brings together the team members in the same vision of the future of culture, around the plastic artist Josie Watson, director of the project.

The App will be launched at the opening of the exhibition “Ciudad Automática de Buenos Aires” on October 2, 2017 in the city of Buenos Aires, at the branch of Banco Ciudad de microcentro, Florida 302. It is an interactive platform that will offer the viewer to interact with the paintings exhibited in the exhibition, with certain places in the city and with social networks.

WatsOnArt conceives technology as a generator of new forms of emotion that force art to renew itself. That is why it faces the challenge of promoting a new cultural identity that completes the content that other digital and traditional tourism and art platforms are not providing, and gives new generations the tools to generate their new cultural language.

Legislatura Porteña de Buenos Aires

The exhibition “Ciudad Automática de Buenos Aires” by the plastic artist Josie Watson, which is based on art and interactivity within the city, is exhibited in the Hall of Honor of the Buenos Aires Legislature. It is available until July 21st.

“Ciudad Automática de Buenos Aires” is an art exhibition that presents the city of Buenos Aires through art and interactivity. It is an exhibition with works inspired by everyday places and characters of the city of Buenos Aires, created by the plastic artist Josie Watson. It intertwines her paintings on canvas with other disciplines, such as music, literature, sculpture, digital projections, augmented reality, interactive installations and social networks.

The aim of WatsOnArt is to promote art through a platform that enables urban interactivity. Josie Watson is currently working on commissions for the Automatic City series, developing the Automatic City® project and directing the muralism initiative in his neighbourhood entitled “Balvanera Project”.

Josie Watson has been developing the Automatic City® painting series since 2009, with which she has gained recognition in the national market. She was invited to exhibit in 2011 at ArteBA together with Banco Ciudad, in 2012 at the Museum of Contemporary Latin American Art of La Plata by the Association of Friends of MACLA, in 2014 at the art gallery of the British Arts Center (BAC) of the Argentine Association of English Culture (AACI) where she exhibits works of the series Ciudad Automática belonging to private collections of the city never before exposed.

British Art Center – Automatic City – Josie Watson

Ciudad Automática (Automatic City) is the creation of the artist Josie Watson that will be officially exhibited for the first time in the city of Buenos Aires in the three floored gallery of the British Arts Center (BAC). The series of paintings was inspired in 2008 by the question about her father’s decision to return to live in Argentina, when he was only 17, in view of the possibility of having chosen Syndey and its (very different) quality of life.
Ciudad Automática expresses the experiences that the artist went through in her youth in this chaotic city, at times unintelligible, at times revealing. Chaos and realization are uniquely captured in works where hyperrealism and her graphic style are twinned with an irresistible tension.
July 10th to 31st at the British Art Center (BAC) of the AACI (Argentine Association of English Culture) in Suipacha 1333
Visits: Monday to Friday from 3 to 9 pm.
